This apparatus can be used for demonstrating the production of beat frequencies.
It is comprised of two nickel-plated tuning forks mounted on individual sound boxes. The two forks both produce an 'A' note (440Hz nominal) when struck with the mallet.
One fork is provided with an adjustable mass, by means of which the frequency of that fork may be shifted from the nominal 440Hz. When both forks are sounded at the same time, a clearly audible 'beat' is produced, its rate depending upon the difference in frequency between the two forks.
- Used to hear dissonance
- One fork adjustable
- Supplied complete with 2x tuning forks, 1x adjustable mass, 2x bases and mallet
- Eisco type PH0742A
Note: Each individual Tuning Fork has a frequency of 440±4Hz and are designed for experimental purposes only.
