The Raspberry Pi AI Camera is a compact 12-megapixel camera, based on the Sony IMX500 Intelligent Vision Sensor. The Raspberry Pi AI Camera supports on-board processing for a variety of popular neural network models, leaving the processor in the host Raspberry Pi free to perform other operations.
The IMX500 combines a 12-megapixel CMOS image sensor with on-board inferencing acceleration for a variety of common neural network models, enabling development of sophisticated vision-based AI applications without need for a separate accelerator. The Raspberry Pi AI Camera uses the Sony IMX500 imaging sensor to provide low-latency, high-performance AI capabilities to any camera application. Tight integration with Raspberry Pi's camera software stack allows users to deploy their own neural network models with minimal effort.
The AI Camera transparently augments captured still images or video with tensor metadata, leaving the processor in the host Raspberry Pi free to perform other operations. Support for tensor metadata in the libcamera and Picamera2 libraries, and in the rpicam-apps application suite, make it easy for beginners to use, while offering unparallelled power and flexibility for advanced users.
The Raspberry Pi AI Camera is compatible with all Raspberry Pi computers (with a CSI camera connection).
The PCB size and mounting hole locations are identical to those of Raspberry Pi Camera Module 3. The overall depth of the AI camera is greater, due to the larger IMX500 sensor and optical sub-assembly.
