The Adafruit Trinket 3.3V mini-microcontroller is a tiny (27 x 15mm) Arduino compatible processor board which is programmable via its micro-USB socket. Its ATtiny85 processor has 8k bytes of flash (programme) memory, 512 bytes of SRAM (static RAM) and 512 bytes EEPROM and runs at 8MHz. The board is capable of outputting 150mA and has an ultra-low drop-out regulator which will switch between USB and battery supply automatically. Adafruit provide a free tutorial and example code to get you started, imagine driving 150 NeoPixels with such a dinky board.

Supplied as a fully assembled board plus 2 x 5-pin strips of 0.1in. male header pins for you to solder on as required.

  • Arduino IDE and AVRdude compatible
  • 3.3V logic levels
  • 8k bytes flash memory, 5 x GPIO lines including analogue inputs and PWM outputs
  • Hardware I2C and SPI channels
  • 8MHz clock speed
  • Power supply up to 16V DC, reverse polarity, thermal and current-limit protection
  • Dimensions 27 x 15 x 4mm (1.1 x 0.6 x 0.2)
  • Adafruit part no. 1550

To get such a tiny form-factor a few compromises had to be made, it doesn't have an Arduino serial port connection for debugging and some computer's USB V3 ports don't recognize the Trinket's bootloader, but USB V2 ports will.

Q. May I ask what language can it be programmed in? Thank you,
A. Hi E Watterich, thank you for your question. This board is programmed using Arduino's simplified C/C++ language. This site gives a good overview.

Trinket is interesting, lots of potential

Fascinating product. Cheap way to add intelligence, make art interactive, impress friends, etc. Theoretically easy to get working, but Adafruit's instructions for adding the libraries to Arduino IDE were either obscure or out-of-date. Bit of jiggery-pokery under the covers, and Robert is your parent's sibling. Rapid gave neat, fast, practical delivery as usual. Thank you.
