Ask the class a question and the same three hands go up. The rest might know the answer, or might be completely lost, and you won't find out until the test. A classroom response system fixes that by giving every pupil a way to answer, so you see the whole room's understanding in seconds rather than guessing from the keen few.
Classwise does it without adding to the school's device headache. The control hub plugs into the teacher's computer by USB, and the browser recognises it with no drivers to install. It talks to each pupil's Classpad by radio, so it doesn't lean on the school Wi-Fi or need pupil phones, tablets or logins. Questions appear on your projector or interactive display, and the Classpad's four buttons light up in matching colours, so even younger pupils can answer without reading a menu. A gentle vibration tells them if they got it right, and you can switch that off for tests.
The Classwise app is free, with no annual subscription. It runs in the browser and comes with a library of ready-made projects. Build your own multiple-choice, true or false and picture quizzes, or let the AI assistant draft questions on any topic. After the lesson, the analytics break results down by question and by pupil, so you can see exactly which idea needs revisiting and who needs a quiet word.
Everything lives in the control hub and docking station between lessons. Its 40 numbered magnetic slots charge the whole set in a few hours, pair the Classpads with one press and match each slot to a name on the register. It has a carry handle, so one kit can move between classrooms, and there's no limit on how many teachers or classes share it. Start with the Classwise 30 to equip a full class, then add Classpads in packs of 10 as your groups grow. For more classroom technology, explore our AV and media systems range.
Classroom response system FAQs
What is a classroom response system?
A classroom response system, also called a student response system or audience response system, lets every pupil answer a question at the same time on a handheld device, with results shown instantly to the teacher. It gives a fuller picture of understanding than hands-up questioning, and every pupil has to commit to an answer.
Does Classwise need Wi-Fi?
No. The Classpads talk to the USB control hub by radio, so they don't use the school Wi-Fi or internet bandwidth, and pupils don't need phones, tablets or logins. The teacher runs the Classwise app in a browser on their own computer.
How long does the Classpad battery last?
Each Classpad has a built-in rechargeable battery that lasts several days on a charge, so there are no disposable batteries to replace. Back in the docking station, a full set recharges in a few hours. Docking the Classpads at the end of each lesson keeps them ready to go.
Is the Classwise app free?
Yes. There's no annual subscription fee, and you get free access to all published resources. The app runs in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera and Arc. Safari isn't supported.
How many Classpads do I need for my classroom kit?
One per pupil. The Classwise 30 covers a typical class, and you can add Classpads in packs of 10 for larger groups. A single docking station holds up to 40. Because any number of teachers can use one kit, one set can be shared across a year group or department.
Can Classwise be used with younger pupils or SEND learners?
Yes. The colour-matched buttons mean pupils answer by colour rather than by reading, and Classwise is designed for early years, primary, secondary and SEND settings, across any subject.
