In a classroom of thirty, consistency is everything. The blue in the third pot needs to match the blue in the first, the brush needs to hold its point past the first half-term, and the paper can't cockle the moment a student gets ambitious with water.
Most departments start with Graduate acrylic, a student paint with plenty of pigment and a smooth flow that's forgiving for beginners. It comes in 500ml pots across 31 shades, with white and black in 1 litre sizes, because those are always the first to run out. When students move up to GCSE and A-level work, System 3 acrylic and System3 inks give them richer colour to push further. The inks thin with water, so one bottle covers bold line work and delicate washes alike. Browse the full range of paints, inks and palettes.
Canvas is lovely, but it's not cheap when thirty students are practising. System3 artboard pads give acrylic painters a rigid 1.4mm board faced with acid-free paper, ten sheets to a pad in A4 or A3, so work stays flat in a folder and won't yellow before it's marked. Working in oils? The Georgian pads do the same job with an oil painting surface. You'll find sketchbooks, canvases and more among our papers and canvasses.
Graduate brushes round off the kit. The short-handled synthetic set covers rounds for detail, flats for washes, fan blenders and riggers for fine lines, with long-handled versions for easel work. Synthetic bristles shrug off acrylic and are easy to clean at the end of a lesson. See all our art brushes, and keep finished pieces safe in our art and design portfolios.
