With fischertechnik construction kits, engineering theory becomes something learners can build, test and push to its limits. Explain a truss bridge on the whiteboard and half the class drifts off. Hand them the parts to build one, load it until it bends, and the penny drops. The German building system has been used in school lessons since 1970, and it's a natural fit for design and technology and science departments alike, growing with your learners from first models all the way to industrial control.
For younger learners, the CLASS SET Basics gets children building their first models, with building ideas and a figure for role play to bring them to life. When they're ready for real engineering, the CLASS SET Statics splits into 16 sets, enough for a class of around 30, and builds bridges, cranes and trusses. Pupils find out for themselves why some structures stand firm and others buckle. You'll find gears and simple machines class sets in our engineering kits range too.
Moving into secondary science? STEM Pneumatics comes with its own compressor and eight models, so groups of two to four can see how valves and cylinders control movement and speed rather than reading about it. STEM Smart Physics, STEM Optics, STEM Electronics, STEM Renewable Energies and the H2 Fuel Cell Car cover much more of the syllabus, and all sit in our physics range alongside our wider science kits.
Ready to add code? Smart Robots Pro builds 12 robots from age eight, with a Bluetooth controller and the free ROBO Pro Coding app, so a first program is only minutes away. For older students, STEM Coding Ultimate pairs the TXT 4.0 controller with a USB camera across 12 models. Students write Blockly or Python and teach their robots to recognise objects, a hands-on introduction to machine learning. fischertechnik isn't only for the classroom. The Agile Production Simulation 24V is a scaled-down smart factory, with a high-bay warehouse, drilling and milling stations, an AI quality check and driverless transport vehicles, all run by Siemens S7-1200 PLCs. Apprentices and engineering students can programme a full production line without halting a real one, then move on to our PLCs and PLC starter kits for standalone automation projects.

fischertechnik FAQs
Do new fischertechnik parts fit older kits?
Yes. fischertechnik building blocks have been compatible with each other since the system launched, and the manufacturer keeps spare parts and extensions available for many years after purchase. You can add a new set to the kits already in your department and build bigger, more ambitious models from both.
Which fischertechnik kit is right for primary or secondary school?
For primary, start with a CLASS SET such as Basics or Statics. These are built for whole-class teaching: the Statics set alone equips around 30 pupils, and building instructions are free to download. For secondary, the STEM kits suit small-group practical work in physics and D&T, and STEM Coding Ultimate takes students into Python and machine learning for computing.
Can you supply fischertechnik to schools, colleges and universities?
Yes. We supply education customers across primary, secondary, further and higher education, and our education team can quote for single kits or several class sets. Universities and colleges can also buy through the NWUPC framework (LAB3152NW).
Is fischertechnik suitable for apprentice and industry training?
Yes. fischertechnik training models are used by major manufacturers to train their own staff. The Agile Production Simulation 24V is programmed in structured text on Siemens S7-1200 PLCs and communicates over MQTT, with a digital twin. Trainees practise Industry 4.0 skills on the same kinds of system they'll meet on the shop floor.
