15 February 2012 Question by: Rapid Customer | Product code: 20-0137
Q. Can we assume that the switched contacts are normally closed, and the connection between (e.g.) pins D and F is made open when a plug is inserted?
A. Hi Grim, thanks for your question. You are right in thinking the switched contacts are normally closed. The input is then directed/diverted to the headphones (or whatever is attached) . In normal (nothing inserted) conditions the signal just passes through from D to F (and E to G). There is a diagram of the connection arrangement at https://www.rapidonline.com/3-5mm-Stereo-PCB-Socket-20-0137#techSpecs

Reliable PCB mount jack socket.

Reviewed by: Mr Chris Potts - 17 December 2015
I am a product designer and UK manufacturer and I have been using this device for about three years now. I find that this 3.5mm, 3-pole jack socket is ideal to fit on my PCBs and have used it for both audio and data inputs/outputs. It is a very economical product, is easily fitted and, so far, I have no failures at all. It is fully compatible with the socket used in the PICAXE range of products and the connection details for this are on page 8 of the PICAXE manual "Getting Started". Here is the link to this manual on the PICAXE.COM website, which you may download free of charge: - http://www.picaxe.com/docs/picaxe_manual1.pdf This is a good product which I would highly recommend.
